A Novi resident for more than three decades, Julie has built her life around
family, faith, and service. She and her husband, David - a proud MSU alumnus -
have spent 30 years supporting the university community, attending campus
events, cheering on Spartan athletics, and celebrating milestones that have
become part of their family story. Their son Blake graduated from MSU in 2023,
and their daughter Samantha is a member of the Class of 2026. Though Julie
earned her own degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1993,
Michigan State has long been woven into the fabric of her family's life.
Her commitment to public service is equally longstanding. In Novi, Julie has
served as a City Councilwoman, a member of the Planning Commission, and
currently as a member of the Economic Development Committee. She has worked
alongside residents, business leaders, and educators to strengthen her
community and ensure responsible growth. As a parent of two Novi Community
School District graduates, she spent years volunteering and advocating for
students and families, gaining firsthand experience in the importance of
accountable, transparent leadership in public institutions.
Recently, Julie faced one of the greatest challenges of her life: a battle
with breast cancer. Surviving that fight gave her renewed clarity about time,
purpose, and legacy. She emerged from that experience with gratitude - and
determination. She believes deeply that each of us is given a limited
opportunity to make a difference, and she has chosen to use her second chance
to serve the university her family loves.
Julie is running to help restore stability, accountability, and transparency to
Michigan State University. She believes the Board of Trustees must operate with
integrity, openly communicate with the public, and confront past failures with
honesty. She supports the full public release of documents related to past
institutional failures so that healing can continue and trust can be rebuilt.
Her priorities include strengthening support for women in sports, protecting
diversity of thought on campus, ensuring education remains focused on critical
thinking rather than ideology, and advancing practical, solutions-driven
governance. She is committed to keeping tuition affordable for Michigan
families and to prioritizing the mental and physical health of students -
recognizing that academic excellence and student well-being go hand in hand.
Julie believes Michigan State University is one of Michigan's greatest
treasures. Yet in recent years, she sees a Board that has too often been
defined by conflict, controversy, and costly mistakes - missteps that have
burdened taxpayers and overshadowed the achievements of students and alumni.
She believes MSU deserves steady, mature leadership - leaders willing to
acknowledge past shortcomings, make peace with them, and chart a better course
forward.
Julie Maday is running to help usher in a new era for Michigan State University
- one grounded in accountability, transparency, and a renewed commitment to
every Spartan, past, present, and future.
